WarTV on Linux
This very simple (unfinished) project was born out of my desire to use a webcam while wardriving. I figured it would be pretty easy to do with Windows, but since I use Kismet more often now than NS, I wanted to get this working with Linux. I have Auditor Security Collection installed to my HD. Auditor uses Kanotix which is based on the Debian distribution.
Keep in mind I'm a *nix newb so some of this may be very basic for some of you. I used a Creative Webcam Go (USB) which is one of their older models but it still works fine on Windows. I plugged it in and it immediately powered on. After searching around, I found xawtv which is a X11 program to watch TV. Not exactly what I was looking for, but it works. (apt-get install xawtv) There may be some installation errors because (my/your) laptop may not have a tv tuner. If you're just looking to run the webcam, these errors can be avoided. After configuring and running xawtv, "xawtv" runs the program and opens a new window, displaying the video from the webcam. Right-clicking the window brings up a config menu, which allows you to capture images or video, and adjust brightness, contrast, etc. These adjustments settings worked fine, I received errors when trying to capture video or images. So close! I'll continue playing around with it and hopefully get it working. Finally, I want to work on some sort of mount to place the webcam at or near the rear-view mirror, similar to the location LEO's have cameras mounted. Any suggestions to improve the functionality or setup is very much appreciated.

Is this based upon my idea from a few weeks ago about recording idiot drivers?
If you're gonna start doing that, let me know, I'll throw together a site where we can start uploading videos.
