Yeah, boot wait's for fixing a broke one. After all, you can only select it after a succesful firmware flashing. Maybe you've solved the problem, however, I suggest surrealism try a tfpt approach.

its the WRT54GS not the regular G so its not like v1 or v2 but the firmware thats on it starts with a 2.xxx

I didnt have to check anybox to put new firmware on my WRT54Gv2 I just used my web browser, wend to administraton, and upgraded the firmware with the sveasoft one. When I do it in the WRT54GS it just ticks 2 progress bars and says it was successfull hmmm... And yes it is brand new.

SN starts with CGN10Dxxxxxx

Try the openWRT firmware. It's supposed to be very minimal and should give you a third opinion (not tried yet).

Make sure you also have the firmware specific for the 54GS, minor differences in hardware could be your issue

I got the openWRT running and love it alot more then the sveasoft one mainly because of the package system it has. I dont have to upload kismet everytime I start up the router. I can just telnet in and start the drone. much easier IMHO.

Yeah, I'd really like to see that. Also, did you compile openWRT yourself or use a snapshot? I really want a WRT54Gs now, I think it might have to be a christmas present to myself

FYI: Three weeks ago, a WRT54G was $80USD, with a $20 rebate. Now the base price is $70, with the same rebates.

That's a good price.

I was looking at a WRT54GS on ebuyer.com today, it was £55 including VAT, but with postage costs. A standard WRT54G costs £44 including VAT and the same postage costs. I bought my WRT54G during the summer for £50. The fact that you can get them for $50 is really annoying.

What's that? Somewhere between 25 and 30 pounds? That is a proper bargain, I might even look into getting one shipped over.

Oh well, with a bit of luck I'll be going to New York next October, I'll have to save my money till then

Again, if you want one in the UK, www.ebuyer.com will probably be your cheapest bet. Please post if you find one cheaper (or want to sell me yours )

Yeah, figuring an exchange rate of $1.65 to £1, then $50 is £30.

One of my brother's few complaints about living in the UK is that electronics and computers are always inflated to a rate of $1:£1.

I compiled it myself, it took quite some time (1.5 hours or so) on my 700MHz Duron. I see what I can do about writing a how to on it. Im at work right now, and dont have my linux box infront of me. Im at work untill 6am EST(nightshift mmmmmm) and if I'm not dead tired when I get home I will start to write up a guide.

I just loaded up and tried OpenWRT. Holy crap is that nice.

The Kismet package needs some tuning, the drone binaries are not as current as the ones in the tar ball in the guide. I'll have to re-work the ipkg for it with the new binaries, but it's nice not to have to re-upload it each time.

Also need to load the WL broadcom driver to get it to work, but that's easy enough.

Surrealism: If you don't write a guide, I will.

Note there is now anew version of the WRTthat the 3rd party firmwares have trouble with. The new version are the WRT54Gv.2.2 and the WRT54GSv1.1

They use a broadcom switch chip instead of the ADM6996, and if you flash it with firmware that does not have the new chip support built in, you will loose your switch ports and then will have to flash back via wireless.

watch those version numbers.....

Thanks for the heads up, added your warning to the guide. Ver 2 should be out tonight or tomorrow with OpenWRT instructions.
