presuming 'linux box' means your local workstation, you already have something on that port on localhost, make sure your not running 2 copies of kismet or that your running a firewall locally that might be messing things up

the whole 'killing client' thing on the WRT means that there was a connection from somewhere, but it died.

what's happening is: Kismet server fires up on your workstation, connects to the drone. Kismet client tries to connect to the Kismet server on locahost, can't and the whole thing dies.

quick note and thread bump.

I reloaded my WRT with the snapshot firmware from 2/2/2005 and it works quite nicely, even seemed to load faster.

Much to the annoyance of the neighboors and Dragorn I've been cranking away at updating the wrt54g kismet drone guide to v3.0.

http://www.renderlab.net/projects/wa...54g/index.html

New instructions covering:

- Setup on the V3 WRT54G
- Updated for Kismet 2005-06-R1a
- Newer openwrt firmwares
- New scripts for channel hopping properly
- Even instructions on making your WRT54G into a drone appliance (start the drone on boot!)

I'll be adding more in the weeks up till Defcon, but for now, this should hold you and stave off the emails about the v3 routers.

Edits and comments always welcome.

Mod: can we change the thread title to reflect v3?

I just wanted to say thanks to Renderman and to all those who helped to compile the kismet drone guide. It's great. Good job all! Setting up the drone was a fun project. For any noob's trying this, remember Google is your friend!!!

The Linksys WRT54G is a really cool little box as a drone. I went the Sveasoft route first, but later changed to the OpenWRT firmware. I can see a lot of "testing" potential for this firmware for a long time. I also suspect my WiGle stats will go up a little faster now. Thanks again for taking the time to compile it.

I've updated the Guide a bit more for the latest versions of Kismet. I've also re-arranged things a bit so all my WRT guides are under thier own project, rather than under wardriving.

I've also added some new tricks.

Everything is now available at http://www.renderlab.net/projects/wrt54g/

I've updated as many links on here as I can. Can anyone tell me how to do an automatic re-direct on apache so I'm not breaking alot of peoples links?

Are you just leaving a page there to do the Re-Direct or do you want Apache itself to redirect?

Either way. I'm not an HTML guru or anything, I know just enough to get by. I'd like anything going to the old dir to be redirected to the new one.

I'm not big on Apache, and I'm sure someone here can tell you the way to do it through that. But the easiest way to do it is using the Meta Refresh tag in the header of a page. I have some script that I use that passes hidden variables back and forth between pages as well, but that's probably overkill for what you're doing. Look up 'Meta Refresh'.

Here's how I did it on a page. Just cut and paste the code, and change your redirects, images, etc.

Code:
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" CONTENT="10;URL=http://www.blackthornsystems.com/warspy">
<TITLE>WarSpy</TITLE>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
</HEAD>
<BODY text="#ffffff" vLink="#ff00ff" link="#00ffff" bgColor="#000000" background="grid.png">
<IMG src="warspy.png" border=0>
<hr>
<font face="verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><br>
<font size="2">
<P>WarSpy.Net is not operational yet.&nbsp; You are being redirected to the
temporary page located at <a href="http://www.blackthornsystems.com/warspy">www.blackthornsystems.com/warspy</a>.</font></font></p>

<br>
<font face="verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><br>
<font size="2">You will be redirected there in approximately 10 seconds, or please click <a href="http://www.blackthornsystems.com/warspy">here</a>
to go there immediately.</font></font></p>
</BODY>
</HTML>

Again, great job. There seems to be few limits to the fun things you can do with the WRT54G. I love running mine as a Kismet drone on OpenWRT. It was a lot of fun to setup. You guide is great!

Most of the work was done by others, I just pulled it all together.

Glad you like it. It seems to have accomplished it's mission of stopping the 'How do I setup a kismet drone?" questions.
