No, not warchalking; and not only not again, but not originally, either. What I was proposing then (and still feel we need) is a convention for marking public hotspots (free or fee-based) that software can easily parse. The SSID is an obvious place to put it.

I'll certainly entertain better ideas, and in the future I'll refrain from using the c-word. (Mutating other people's memes is always a risky business...)

Ok here's an idea. I know it sounds off the wall but stick with me here. We need to develop a substrate that's capable of retaining a material that is formed in such a manner that it selectively reflects and absorbs wavelengths of light, in the visible spectrum, in a predetermined pattern.....

I'll check with NASA to see if they have any ideas, if someone else knows of something let me know.

Oh my gosh... Someone else suggesting the idea of a common open SSID naming scheme...

Standard for public hotspots??

Edit - Oops, month old thread. Sorry. I received the second E-mail notification of a reply that didn't exist to my old thread today, then spotted this one.
