A cheap PDA to go for

I have been looking at buying a cheap PDA, I read the post a while back about the HP Jornada 540 and have been looking but I had had trouble finding one for the UK, the only reason I liked the HP was because of the Compact flash expansion slot. However, I read today that there are SDIO WLAN cards available now, I just have a few questions

1. does the PDA need a SDIO slot and not just a SD slot?

2. I only want to spend around £100 I have looked around and not found anything inspiring at all.

can anyone suggest anything to me?

Thanx

yeah, plan to spend more. Always remember in this world, you get what you pay for. You buy something for £100 you're gonna get exactly that, then you'll be right back here asking why your £100 PDA doesn't work for sheit.

So do you guys think SD/IO is the way to go or is it better to stick with compact flash?

The CF wireless cards are less expensive and the PDA's that still have CF slots are, for the most part, less expensive than the ones that don't mostly due to the newer ones having internal wi-fi. Check out the manufacturer's websites for the refurbs, my Axim X5 was a refurb and came with a full warranty and was cheaper than the current models. You need to figure out what you need the device for first, then ask questions.

Truer words were never spoken. Define what tasks are priority, which are moderate, and those that are "it would be nice", and then get the device which best meets your needs in that order.

Here's a prime example: An acquaintance recently got a popular email device. She loves it, as she constantly keeps in touch with other people via email. This person convinced another woman (also an acquaintance) to get a the same model device. The second woman hardly uses email or text messaging, has a need to carry Word documents around with her, and wants to take notes at meetings. When the second person asked me why she couldn't do that on her wonderful new device, my response was "Because it isn't designed to do those things. You need a PDA." This second person is now stuck with a device that she has no real need for because she bought the device before defining what she wanted to do first.

I got an IPaq 3835 (200 mhz cpu with 64 megs ram has an sd slot) and spent the money for the extended battery sleave with pcmcia slot for a gold card.

also got the nessary cables to link it into a GPS, and allow it to run off the car power while driving. I know I can do more with the Ipaq and I do... I am going to get a new Dell Axion X50 V series for work but this is what I primarily use for stumbling since I can carry everything I need in a small lunch box.

Like Thorn pointed out.. if you just want to stumble.. you can get a cheazy pda that will do that. Its when you want to do more with it, thats when you need a better unit.

I have spoken to a few stumblers who use low end laptops (200-300 mhz) with 64-128 meg ram on 3-4 gig drives as their stumling rigs... makes more sense to use something less expensive to harvest the AP's then risk a high dollar laptop.
