Getting a PDA

Hey,

I was thinking of getting a PDA for war driving (and war walking? *shrug*). I have a orinoco, senao, and run-of-the-mill g card (all pc PCMCIA). I would like to use these cards, or at least the orinoco card, in a pda. What PDA(s) should I look at and what other equpment do I need to connect these cards?

Thanks

You'd do well to get an iPAQ that fits a PCMCIA sleeve. Check out the iPAQ websites and eBay. Use an Orinoco Gold card, as you can attach external antennas to it. I use both a magmount omni (12 dB) and Yagi (15 dB) antenna. Just my .02.

36xx-39xx, 54xx, 55xx all support sleeves. You plan on running Linux or Windows?

The sleave is the add on item that allows you to put a PCMCIA card (also known as a PC card) into it to add functionality. The card you want to add is of course the Orinoco Gold Classic. I use a 3835 Ipaq with a batt/sleave on it (extra battery life) and Beakmyn has uses the 39xx series.

if you are starting out, this is a nice way to get into it. However, get a GPS, and get its external power cable for your car and all the cables needed to link the GPS to the IPAQ. This is where you can spend some $$$

Here is an example on eBay - you could look on the manufacture's site):

more info here

You will need to look around for your specific model of PDA. In the future you can type your questions directly into the search engine I think you are only allowed 1 spoonfeeding session per day, otherwise you may become addicted and overdose.

Thx a lot for all the spoon feeding. It was very good. Now its just a toss up between the iPaq rx3115 and rx3715 with a sleeve. I think I may go with the rx3715 because it has more proc power (and a cam).
Just for the reccord I am not a noob when it comes to wardriving, at least with a laptop.

First hit is free... The rx series won't use the sleeves. Only the ones beakmyn listed. There are NO current pocket pc's that will use a pcmcia card.

Good luck you'll need to snipe it to get it cheap Also if you plan on using Ministumbler with it find my post about the driver versions for the integrated wifi so You get the right one on there (just in case you want to stumble and forget your pcmcia card).
