GPS - Wifi - Laptop
Hi,
Is there any program availible for Pocket PC that would: 1) Take a GPS input on the PDA 2) Send the data locally (by wifi) to a Laptop 3) The laptop could output the data as a string or plot on a map? I have a spare router and a HTC with a GPS. So the hardware end is pretty much covered. Or, could a server be set up with the router. Then by simply lauching the browser on the PDA, a person could upload the GPS fix in semi-real time. Along with another other data to appear on the map.(Name, Status etc) Idea's? Shamrock365

Trust me bluetooth is easier since its built-in functionality, rather then try to create your own solution.

Yeah, they look good. I'd prefer a Wifi solution though. The range factor of bluetooth just won't work.
How would the websever side work if that was a possibility? PHP scripting etc I'd imagine?

This actually works for transferring data across an Ethernet cable or wifi if you have that installed as well. Just thought it might help guide you in the right direction. If I get a chance I will look through the stuff again and make sure I got the name of the software right.

Edit: Just looked at some stuff on it. It's an OS embedded into the system. I don't think that will help you at all. I know they have it set up to talk to the computer using the IIS FTP service to the program running on an XP computer. Maybe digging around VxWorks stuff will give you the ability to do what you want.

Thanks. It looks like its expensive. I suppose I could go down the bluetooth route but that undoes the whole concept of the project.
