Screens for these little bastards.

Just to let everyone know, the screens for the 5400, 5500 series cost $186.82 + tax.

Isn't this like your 3rd broken screen for an Ipaq since you joined this forum?

Check This Place out - Get High Tech

They not only have the screens but also "only the glass top"..
Which is a butt load cheaper to replace, as it looks like only the glass
on your Ipaq is broken.

AFAIK the digitizer on this model can't be removed from the lcd. The older screen could. I ordered the screen from foxconn about two months ago, they strung me along for a couple weeks, then said they weren't carrying the part any more. So I told them to cancel the order. Have been fighting that ever since. Sent the iPaq to Compaq to get it fixed, watched it make a spiral pattern around the US to get to Alabama. Took a week for next day air... Just this morning foxconn sent me an e-mail saying the lcd shipped from Taiwan. Called Compaq to have them send the unit back to me. Costs more for them to fix it than me. Some day I'll have a working iPaq again, maby.

All Digitizers can be removed from their TFT's. Their 2 seperate components.
Worst case is you may need to unsolder/solder 2 tiny spots.. The Instructions
for the screen repairs are also on the GetHighTech site. They even have
Videos..

They don't carry the parts for my handheld anyway. Keeping dust outta the things is a pain too. Had the dust issue with my first iPaq. Can't see it till the back light turns on, then BAM! There it is.

If apple ever releases a new handheld I'll probably get one of them. No one makes a good sniffer program for my Newton...

I don't know what you're using for a case, but maybe you should pick up one of these. I have one and swear by it!

I used to have one of them, slipped on the ice and landed on it. Didn't work too well after than. Also scratched the hell out of my iPaq. The foam lineing picks up dirt and whatnot and turns to sandpaper. It was in a pccard sleve with the hard screen protector. Thing landed on it's corner, tweaked everything and cracked the screen. Got the new one the other day looks good as old now! I'd get a rugged case but the things are too bulky. Looked at these,
http://www.t-com.com/ cost a lot though.

damn... both kinda take the POCKET out of PocketPC, don't they? But that military computer looks awfully cool.

A buddy has that Otter 2600 and he swears by it because it's water proof. I would only comment that if you're using it while trying to swim you shouldn't be trusted with gadgets and things that run on batteries.

There's that fine line between practical hard case and overkill for the guy who doesn't leave the house. Sounds like Barry needs one surrounded by bubblewrap in a titanium case. He's awfully hard on these little fragile things.

I've been nursing an @migo for the past couple years. Not only can I not drop it, if I look at it wrong during a full moon the ROM goes dead and needs to be sent in to be reflashed. Just replaced it with a 5555 and finally have a device I can leave my computer room with.

When that MPx hits though, I'm gonna be a geek in paradise.

I use RhinoSkin. I like it for the belt clip that can be removed when not needed.
