TIA
Like Barry already mentioned, the only way to get a good sniffer working on the simpad is to install linux on it. Get it from : opensimpad.org and try it out. Kismet, nmap, wellenreiterII and all the other "default" programs are working fine.

Cheers

No problem, nice to be of service. Yes, the simpad is a pretty cool thing to play with. I have two of them and also one SinusPAD (with 16MB flash and 32MB ram only). One is running linux and the others are flashed with ce.net 4.0 and 4.1.

There is a company in germany which makes memory upgrades up to 128MB RAM .

cheers

Iīve now installed OPIE on my SimPad but canīt find where to enter the SSID and WEPkey to get it working in my WLAN? Iīm looking for something like "configuration/network" or similar.

Do I need any packages installed that are not included in the defaultimage?

Should be a network icon somewhere. c0rnholio will be abel to tell you better.Look here under where it says First OpenEmbedded preview screenies the third pic labeled desktop. That's the network icon I'm talking about. Click that and you should be able to find your network card. At least that's how it works on my Zaurus, and iPaq.

No additional packages needed.

You have the following configuration options:

1) via command line

enter the following command in console:

#iwconfig eth0 essid <your-ssid-here>
#iwconfig eth0 key <your-wep-key-here> restricted
#ifconfig eth0 <your ip here> and so on...I guess you know how to configure an interface and routing :-)

2) via opie network config

- go to the settings tab and klick network
- mark the corrosponding 802.11b entry and click configure
- enter all your option and press ok
- you can monitor signal strength etc. there also..

3) via /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts file

- take a look in the file and enter your settings

I mostly use the commandline option, because my WLAN enviroment changes frequently ;o)
The opie network config option works in most cases.

I hope this helps.

cheers

If I would want to reinstall Windows CE.NET on my SimPad, where do I find it?

It had originally installed Win CE 3.0 on it, but i downloaded CE.NET 4.0 and flashed the ROM. But now I canīt seem to find those files again. Do you have them somewhere or maybe a link to where they can be downloaded? You know, just in case I would want to go back for some reason.

Thanks in advance!

Win CE.NET

Has anyone got this file on disk?

S842-SI-INT-152 (Build 908)

Itīs the english imagefile for Win CE.NET on a Siemens SimPad SL4.
Siemens used to offer it for free download on their website, but it has been removed for some reason.

Iīve installed Linux on my SimPad but would like to have the option to go back sometime in the future. Just in case.

Might try handhelds.org, they keep image files of some of the iPaq's. They might have it. I tried looking this morning but my internet is flakeing out, or maby theirs is, and it was taking too long to load pages.

This response might be a little late, I'll put it out there. Cambridge offers vxSniffer. I've run the free trial on my Mobilepro 780 and Jornada 720 and it works great. I don't know if it would work with wifi, but then again why not ? Once the card grabs the packets it should be able to open them up for you (even if all you see is encrypted jibberish). Although it's possible it might not be able to put and Orinoco Gold card into promiscuous mode...

Since the trial is free you might check it out...

if you like it, it will cost your a cool $60...
