2.4 GHz distance problem

Hello! This is my first post, and I hope that you can give the solution I need.(BTW excuse my english).
So, the problem:
Me and a few of my friends would like to make a small Wirelles network. The equipment is in 2,4 Ghz. The maximum distance between us is about 4-5 km.
I want to know if I buy a D-Link AirPlus DI-524+ G 802.11g Wireless AccessPoint + Router and an Omnidirectional antenna
Gain.......................................12 dBi
Frequency........................2400 - 2500 MHz
Polarization............................vertical
(-3dB) horizontal...........................360°
(-3dB) vertical..............................6°
VSWR (max).................................<2
Impedance.................................50 OHm
Mechanical:
Socket/Plug......................N female socket
Dimension............................1130 x 23 mm
Weight...................................0.8 kg
Mounting................................fi 38÷51
with these specifications will it work.
Do I need some extra amplifiers or I can use the detachable antenna of the router.
Do I need a more powerfull antenna, like a double sector with a gain of 15 dBi?
Is it good to use some protection like a WOP-CR23 - Surge arrestor - Diamond . ?

I wish to thank anyone that can give me some advices.

You need to do some more research, and do the math.
First, do you have a free unobstructed RF-LOS (Radio Frequency Line Of Sight) ?
Then calculate your link-budget, and your required fresnel zone. Then you can start deciding on equipment.

Yes, if I can say so there is no obstacles between us. We live in a "clear" area. There are only normal houses here. The problem is if the router can suport a omnidirectional antenna - or I need amplifier??? I have no experience in Wifi networks. Please if you make an answer be more explicit( I'm a litlle stupid in this problems, any shortcuts are welcome ).

No houses? No trees?

For further assistance please post your numbers for.

Freznel clearance

SOM

Link budget

There are no "shortcuts" in proper RF system design!

A "clear" area isn't necessarily clear when talking about RF-LOS. You state there are houses there. Are they between the locations you want to connect ?
As for links, use the search function, and plug in the words "Link budget", "RF-LOS" and "Fresnel Zone" in the search field. That will provide you with the information required to calculate everything.
