2.4 GHz distance problem
Hello! This is my first post, and I hope that you can give the solution I need.(BTW excuse my english).
So, the problem: Me and a few of my friends would like to make a small Wirelles network. The equipment is in 2,4 Ghz. The maximum distance between us is about 4-5 km. I want to know if I buy a D-Link AirPlus DI-524+ G 802.11g Wireless AccessPoint + Router and an Omnidirectional antenna Gain.......................................12 dBi Frequency........................2400 - 2500 MHz Polarization............................vertical (-3dB) horizontal...........................360° (-3dB) vertical..............................6° VSWR (max).................................<2 Impedance.................................50 OHm Mechanical: Socket/Plug......................N female socket Dimension............................1130 x 23 mm Weight...................................0.8 kg Mounting................................fi 38÷51 with these specifications will it work. Do I need some extra amplifiers or I can use the detachable antenna of the router. Do I need a more powerfull antenna, like a double sector with a gain of 15 dBi? Is it good to use some protection like a WOP-CR23 - Surge arrestor - Diamond . ? I wish to thank anyone that can give me some advices. |

First, do you have a free unobstructed RF-LOS (Radio Frequency Line Of Sight) ? Then calculate your link-budget, and your required fresnel zone. Then you can start deciding on equipment. Dutch

Yes, if I can say so there is no obstacles between us. We live in a "clear" area. There are only normal houses here. The problem is if the router can suport a omnidirectional antenna - or I need amplifier??? I have no experience in Wifi networks. Please if you make an answer be more explicit( I'm a litlle stupid in this problems, any shortcuts are welcome ).

As for links, use the search function, and plug in the words "Link budget", "RF-LOS" and "Fresnel Zone" in the search field. That will provide you with the information required to calculate everything. Dutch
