Lightbulb Antenna with integrated GPS project

Anyone try to modify a magnetic mount antenna with a Delorme Earthmate
GPS device? I was wondering if the proximity to the Magnetic mount would
render it inoperable.

Does the GPS rely on a normal magnetic compass inside or does it use the satellites like normal GPS's?

GPS relies on receiving signals from satellites around 1.575 gHz. Any effects from a magnet would be not be noticeable.
