can't get WPC11 card working with NetStumbler
I have read topics here that say it works fine with .4.0, but I can't seem to get it to work for me..
using it with xp pro by the way.. i tried removing the card, and putting it back in, and netstumbler seemed to recognize it and asked if I wanted to auto change the ssid setting to pick up all ssids. I clicked yes, told me to remove and insert card again.. I did that, and it seemed to work for about 30 seconds, then stopped working, and says "No wireless adapter found" again. any suggestions? 1. What OS are you using (including installed service packs)? xp pro 2. What specific hardware (wireless) are you using? linksys wpc11 - version 3 3. Are there any errors associated with the hardware? (have you checked device manager and event viewer for errors?) no errors 4. Are you using the vendor supplied client manager or is windows controlling things? linksys client installed, but windows says its connected as well 5. Have you installed any third party firmware or hacked the factory firmware? nope 6. If applicable, what firmware version are you currently using? not sure Note that a couple of these are M$ Windows specific and should be tailored to your specific OS. If you are asking for help with a wireless link the following information will help. 1. Have you calcuated your link budget, SOM, fresnel zone? Many of the caclulators are available online. (please post your numbers). no idea 2. Is the hardware you have selected compatible? In some instances mixed vendor equipment is NOT compatible! The owners manual and vendor support network can help determine this. yes, supported Last edited by budtron : 06-15-2005 at 10:43 PM. |

Then the items I quoted in post #3 do not apply. What device is selected under "devices" in NS? |

Find another driver for the card, newer if possible. Secondly, from your original post, I can see you are connected to a network while using NS. NS is not designed to be used while connected to a network. Read the documentation for the prerequisites necessary before starting NS. Thirdly, Your card IS NOT supported. Your card MIGHT WORK with NDIS 5.1, but that is not the same as being supported. Supported cards as stated in the documentation are : Hermes 1 chipset based cards : Win 9x, Win2K and Win XP. Fully supported natively. Atheros and Prism based cards : Natively supported under WinXP, but with limitations. The native support, is because Marius have gotten low level information from the chipset manufacturers on how to access the chipsets functionality. The above cards plus all others MIGHT WORK with NDIS5.1 under WinXP, depending on how well the vendor adheres to the NDIS 5.1 API. But no guarantees that they will. It depends solely on the vendors drivers. To sum it all up, and repeat what has been written here on the forums ad nauseaum: If you want to be sure that your card works fully with NS, buy a Hermes 1 chipset based card such as the Lucent/Proxim/Agere ORiNOCO Classic Gold (8410-WD).
