Com ports trying again

OK, So my first post got deleted and I'm not sure why. The only response was:

Quote:
Is there any reason that you can't/won't use supported hardware?
Unfortunately I could not post to a closed thread so could not answer the question. The first time I posted I posted in the forum where it _seemed_ that people where asking for feature requests. So I asked if a fetaure could be added to allow com ports greater than 16. Can you please tell me why that is a reason for binning my post?

Now to answer the question of why I can't/won't use supported hardware? I'm sure my hardware works and the GPS unit will work as many people have used Bluetooth GPS units before and it is NEMEA compatible. As I mentioned in my earlier post I have a lot of equipment hooked up to the machine that takes up a lot of com ports. Each mobile phone (Nokia 6630) that is connected takes up 3 com ports alone and the edgeport rack takes up a bunch more.

Now if there is a way to reassign one of the com lower com ports that has already been assigned and change the GPS com port to a lower one then I would do that. I'm just not sure if it is possible or how I would go about this.

Now since I am positng this in the Noobie lounge and I am asking a genuine question here is this going to be deleted?

Thanks,
Glen

Plug in all your stuff including the gps then disable it all thru the device manager. Power down, unplug everything then power up. Now plug your gps in, it should be assigned to one of the lower unused com ports. Now you can plug in all your other stuff. Remember to always use the same connection method or Windows will reassign to another comm port.

Well we are testing a new 3G network and are doing optimisation testing. As an add on I wanted to scan for WiFi networks since we are driving around most of the city. I thought ot would be interesting to get a map of WiFi networks in the city.

Thanks,
Glen

And you have no concerns with your extra curricular activities (wardriving) interferring with your "optimisation testing" and poisoning the results? What city are we talking about here?

Yes I do. I was going to test the setup first. Also we are not doing scanning the whole time and I could do it in between drive tests. Also the 3G network runs on a different frequency so there should be no interference. The city is Auckland, NZ. I will probably just use my personal laptop.

But that does not account for the clock cycles your cpu will be giving to NS while it is scanning.

Which is why I was going to test things before actually using it when driving live sites. I will in all honesty only use it while we are not running live tests. We have a lot of driving to/from test runs, etc. I am not going to put the quality of the optimisation tests in jeopardy becasue I want to learn about wifi. that would be dumb...and i don't think i am quite _that_ dumb.
