Computer "stutters" while running NS 0.4.0
I have a laptop running an AMD K6-2 433MHz, 160MB RAM, 4.5GB harddrive and Windows 2000 Pro (I am forced to run an older laptop because of how expensive new ones are). Every time I run NetStumbler 0.4.0, it causes the entire system to slow down and "stutter" hideously. Sounds skip, the mouse jumps around whenever I move it, and the CPU usage goes way high. I have confirmed 100% that it is NetStumbler causing this, and not anything else. When I start NetStumbler, the stuttering begins. When I close NetStumbler, the stuttering goes away. It is still doing it after a clean reformat and reinstall of Windows, so it cannot be a virus or some form of incompatibility between NetStumbler and another program.
Is there any way I can stop it from doing this? It is becoming a real annoyance. Thanks. |

I've run NS on a Win98, 100MHz P-1 /16MB RAM, a 2.1GB disk and never had a problem at all. It sounds like the wireless card's driver is not compatible with NS. Are you using a supported card? If so, what drivers are you using?

I use a 266 with 128 megs ram on a laptop with win98 on a 4 gig drive and a 10 gig with Ubuntu linux with Kismet on another. (Dell laptops have easy switch drive bays) and it runs fine. Do yourself a favor... downgrade to win98 win2000 and NS 4 sometimes do not like each other. I found that out on my other laptop (PIII 900 with 512 meg and 20 gig using win2k) so I upped to XP Corp and its been happy.

Of course you never did say if you are using supported hardware or not. |

Computer "stutters" while running ns 0.4.0
I am running a Panasonic CF62 PI 133 48meg of ram, 800 meg hard drive and an Orinico Silver card with no problem...Change your OS. to WIN98...There are some compatibility issues with Win2000 and certain drivers like the old GFORCE 1&2 drivers will make the OS lock up and some devices won't even be detected for plug and play.
