Finally, I got connected......had to move the router away from the speakers, cable modem, monitor, and wireless phone base ( ... tried to get my roommate to do this weeks ago, but he just didn't listen -- and he was shocked when my connection went from barely there to Good/Very Good ...
)The only remaining issue is that the connection is very slow. Windows says that I have anywhere from an 11 - 54 Mbps connection, but it still takes......for....ever.....to.....just download a small file. At other times it seems to just cut out then it might come back or it might not. Other times, when I boot, I don't see the network -- or if I do see the network it won't connect for a while, when it finally does it still very slow even tho it says a Good/Very Good Signal with a speed that goes from 11 - 54 Mbps. The network setup is Router -- Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router with SpeedBooster Booster -- Linsys WRE54G Wireless-G Range Expander My NIC -- Linksys WMP54GS Wireless-G PCI Adapter with SpeedBooster There is nothing between the Router and the Booster. Between the Booster and my NIC are a few wall and possibly some pipes. The distance between the Router and the Booster and the distance between the Booster and my NIC card are both less than 25 feet. The NIC card is not warm, so I don't think heat is an issue. Thanks in advance for any help....I'd like to be able to connect at full speed. T |

To verify that the speed problem is between the card and the WAP as opposed to the WAP and the interenet. Run the speed test here both through the wireless connection and then through a hardwired connection if possible. That should give you a good idea where the bottleneck is.

Why do you need a booster fot 25 feet? Have you tried it without the booster? Oh I just looked you don't mean "booster" the WRE54G is a repeater. Still seems like 25 feet is plenty close not to need the repeater.

I'll try removing the Range Expander when I get home and see if it makes a difference....maybe I'm getting interfearance from it.
I just remembered something else about our setup..... When he moved the Router, he took the antennas and pointed them straight out of the back of the unit, instead of up in the air. Correct me please if I'm wrong, but on Routers isn't the signal is pushed out of the tip of the antenna in a horizontal plane? If that's so, then the best position for the antenna is straight up and down or in a \ / shape. And could that explain why I'm seeing a good strong signal, but having speed issues anyway? Thanks in advance..... T |
