Do I need a 802.11 G card?
I am looking to do some wireless sniffing. Do I need a 802.11 a/b/g card to see all of those networks or will the older technology see all 3?

802.11 b/g uses frequencies in the 2.4Ghz area, and 802.a uses frequencies in the 5Ghz area of the radio spectrum.

802.11 b cards will see b/g networks, 802.11g cards will see b/g networks, and 802.11a cards will only see 802.11a networks.

802.11G Card
It is also worth mentioning that most 802.11a adapters also cover a & b spectrums. Thus, it is more economical to buy these cards than have separate ones.

It is also worth mentioning that in the USA the FCC does not allow external antenna on "a" cards.

Read the Hardware Compatibility guide for the software you want to use.
This way, you will always get the "right" card..
