Dwl-g510

Hi,

I have a D-Link DWL-G510 and a D-Link DI-624 router. I run a dual boot system of Windows XP and SuSE 9.2.

I am experiencing bad signal on both operating systems and when I am in Linux, it loses connection to the router often.

In XP, it remains connected to the router, but the signal is very low, to non existent.

Thinking that I was too far away from the router, I brought my computer upstairs to test the signal. Still the same crappy signal w/ both OS'.

So I came to the conclusion that it was my Wireless PCI card.

What card do you guys recommend that would work for both operating and that won't break my wallet?

Thanks, th3gh05t

Have you tried a different card with your AP? Have you tried your card with a different AP? What if your router/AP is the problem?

I would recommend you finish troubleshooting before you buy something you don't need.

Currently there is no other AP that I can connect to.

And as I said before, my roommate isn't having any problems w/ his Linksys PCI card.

Although we did recently upgrade from a D-Link DI-614+, which is a wireless B router. Having a Wireless-G card, I thought that it would be best to use a Wireless-G router.

It seems as though whichever D-Link router I use, everyday the signal and connection gets worse and worse.

As you said before where? Looks like you may have had that part of the conversation with yourself...

I can't recommend any but try a search here for "PCI Card". I have seen them discussed a few times.

Don't buy a Motorola WPCI810g it's a real POS. I got one today just cause I needed another card quick. With the AP only 20 feet away with no walls inbetween I get only moderate signal strength, the CM sucks balls, and the newest drivers don't work.

There is a PCI version of the ORiNOCO I thought, or there was an adapter of some sort (like this) .

Yea, I don't want to have to buy two devices.

That just doesn't make any sense.

Unless you had a portable device you wanted to use on the wireless network as well as the desktop.

Just cause I am posting in the newbie forum, doesn't mean that I am one.

I just need some expert recommendation of a Wireless PCI Card that will work with both, SuSE 9.2 and Windows XP.

Thanks

Check the hardware compatibility lists for the OS's you listed.

Here I'll get you started!
