First wardriving experience
...it was pretty cool. My cousin & I drove around his neighborhood..just his subdivision. Picked up around 12 routers or so, only 2 were secured. Kinda freaky. Then I went home, and picked up 80 routers in my area.. wow. A lot of these were secured, which was good to see. Probably the most amusing thing about this is the names people give their routers.
![]() Anyway, I have a question. Why does NetStumbler say WEP even if the router is using WPA encryption or something else? It thinks everything is WEP for some odd reason. Thanks. And PS: my wardriving was harmless, didn't hop on anyone's networks. Gonna go wardrive to work now & see all the businesses that have wireless routers set up. Man, I can't believe how powerful the antenna is in my Inspiron 8600 compared to the USB adapters. |

I did my first wardriving experience yesterday, driving around my neighboorhood. I don't have a lap top, so I took my emachines pc and 15 inch monitor and set those up inside my car. I powered them with a 300W power inverter. Pretty geaky setup, but it worked pretty good. I used 7db high gain magnet mount antenna on the top of my car. Just on my drive way right away I picked up 3 active unWEPed acess points and that was nothing. My program logged over 200 acess points just aroud 2 mile radius! That was pretty cool for the first time. Half of them were open!
