Okay this morning i started reading about wireless connections and netstumbler. so i downloaded it of the .com page. but on the paper it said .org so i got here to this forum. well i checked most of the forums out and got stuck in the stumbling/wardrive kit forum reading over ppls equipment.
now knowing that stumbling is just looking for APs that you drive by; but why would i need a gps unit and all the other stuff. just so that i could pinpoint on a map where the AP is located or what is that for? dont really know. beside that. whats up with these cantanas and what are they for gps or wifi? thanks for your help Emanuel |

Yes, the GPS is to pinpoint the approximate location of the access points. The cantennas are antennas for your Wifi card. It enables you extend the receiving range of your card. |

well i have a dell latitude d500 with an internal wifi card so that wouldnt be of any use.
but lets say i would get a PCMCIA card one of the gold series that everyone is talking about on here. - will the "cantana" improve the reception for wifi? - is there a manual on how to build a cantana? - what is the basic purpose of stumbling if there is a huge post about not accessing the APs? - why would i want to know the exact location? i mean wouldnt the Network Stumbler with the integrated frequency radio(signal/noice dbm) be enough to actually pin point the location of the APs? thanks for your help guys Emanuel |

http://www.google.com/search?q=build...utf-8&oe=utf-8 I built a pair of these. Only difference in the ones I made is I made custom funnels out of foil and fiberglass. They also work pretty good without the funnel. Last edited by wrzwaldo : 09-30-2004 at 10:10 AM. |
