Help needed please wifi, win98

Help needed please. I have just managed to squish Win98 on an old Toshiba 486 laptop, I also managed to get the wireless PCMCIA card working. When I go into the control panel for the wifi card it shows me that it’s all working ok and has good signal strength and link quality. The problem is when I go to internet explorer I get the message “The page cannot be displayed” there may be a problem with the TCP\IP setting somewhere but I don’t know where to look, would one of you kind people please give me a step by step on how to do this. My desktop has winXP running and is plugged into my router, my daugters PC also has winXP and a wirless PCI card that connects to the AP thats plugged into my router

Thanks
Steve

The quality of support you can get is equal to the quality of information you are giving. The information you have given is severely lacking...

It really would be a great help if you for instance had bothered to tell us what WiFi card you are using.

And that's all set up correctly? You've got all the correct values and stuff?

Also, you'll get a lot from reading the Networking 101 pages here. A quick little search will dredge them up.

Have you checked under the Network settings in the Control Panel for XP, to see if you got assigned an IP address or DNS servers from your access point?

EDIT:
Off hand, I'd say you should go under Control Panels, to Network and Internet Connections, to Network Connections, double click on your network icon, select Properties, click on TCP/IP, leave it checked, select Properties over there, and select the little circle that says "Obtain an IP adress automatically" and the same for DNS farther down.

At least as a first step. (P.S. I forgot you had win98: this is how it works in XP. Maybe it's similar)

Check WINIPCFG

Start your machine up and make sure your Wireless Card Software says you are connected to your Access Point. Next go to the Windows run box and run WINIPCFG. If WINIPCFG shows an IP address for your wireless connection, fire up your browser. If your browser is still saying "page cannot be displayed", check your browser and make sure it is not trying to use a proxy. As a last resort, try http://www.google.com and see if that comes up okay (it's not likely, but it is possible that the home pages set up on your browser doesn't exist).

If that fails, try renewing the IP address using WINIPCFG. If all else fails, uninstall and reinstall your drivers. If that fails, you may need another card.

Corruption.. Is that a state or federal crime ? Can't he just pay the socket some more ? That usually works with politicians and public employees...
