Learnin' 'bout PDA's
Maybe this isn't the right forum, but I've been looking for 2 hours, and this seems like my best shot at getting some information. I am just about to purchase an iPAQ h2215. I don't know much about these types of devices beyond what I have been able to glean from googling in my spare time, (which is spare indeed) these last couple of weeks.
I have a Linksys 802.11b router at home, and I want to be able to connect my iPAQ with it as well as at various hotspots. The network adapters that are available to me at this time are the D-Link DCF 660W which, as I have seen in this forum, doesn't seem to be stable in the h2215 with Win Pocket PC 2003 in one's opinion, but works great in another's. (I can't find the thread with the unfavorable remarks, but I believe the guy got flamed pretty good because he wasn't following proper instructions); the Netgear MA 701, which I believe is incompatible; the Ambicom Wave2Net WL1100C-CFC1, which had favorable remarks here; and the TRENDnet TEW 222CF, for which I have very little information and that which I do have seems not so impressive. I am attempting to do my research before I buy. I also have questions of speed vs. capacity in regards to RAM, but that may belong in another forum. BTW -- of the adapters that are compatible with the h2215, which will support mini-stumbler? Thanks, |

the 2215 is a pretty nice pda. i have one. i especially like the fact that it has both SD and CF slots built in... rare in today's world. the only thing that is extremely bad is the arrow button. it is mush and is next to useless because it's just about impossible to get it to register a keystroke in the direction you rock it. in fact, if you have apps that rely heavily on it, i would skip this ipaq because your life will be miserable.
as for the MA701, it works w/ MS 0.4, but i can't figure out how to disable the WZC properly. the problem is the WZC causes it to associate w/ an open AP, which in turn, prevents MS from seeing anything besides the AP it's associated with. you can avoid these prbs by getting a CF->PCMCIA adapter such as the one that semsons.com sells and just plug in a full size ORiNOCO classic. it's kind of big and floppy to use this setup, but you can always fold the card around the back. sorry, i don't know anything about the other cards you mentioned.

Thanks so much for the reply.
According to Netgear's own website, these are the iPAQ's that are compatible with the MA701: Compaq iPAQ H3630 StrongARM H3660 StrongARM H3830 StrongARM H3850 StrongARM H3870 StrongARM H3950 Intel PXA250 H3970 Intel PXA250 That may be why you are having problems. |
