Learning to WarDrive

Hey everyone, I just got a new laptop and I have a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection in it, and I also am buying a book called Wardriving: Drive, Detect, Defend. As soon as I downloaded NS and opened it up, I tried to detect the wireless linksys server, not secured, and I couldn't pick it up. I dont know why but as soon as I turned off NS my Windows Wireless Connection finder that came standard with it, found it in an instant. I dont have any external anntenaes because my laptop has it built in, but does anyone know how to get NS to work with Windows XP?

First of all I'm sure Thorn will appreciate you buying his book.

Second of all, please please please, read all the posts in the Welcome Desk, the FAQs, and use the search function. The answers to virtually all of your questions are already there.

Third of all, NS works just dandy with XP, it just doesn't work with the Wireless card you happen to have.

Did you read:
this post

It may work using NDIS drivers (WHICH DON'T PROVIDE CORRECT SIGNAL AND NOISE LEVELS) and you may have to perform the other suggested actions. And it may not work at all, it depends on the driver version.

If I'm not mistaking that chart says "Cards that have been reported to work"!

You should have two entries for the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG on the Device menu like so:
"Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection Prism2"
"Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection NDIS 5.1"

Use the NDIS 5.1 driver. It may work, but you will not get accurate Noise and SNR information. All this information is in the README and the Help files.

I'm glad you liked the book. Chris is the main author, and is a Mod here also.

Do you have a GPS connected? That lets you select how LAT/LON is displayed.

What is it that you want to change? All you need to do is set the device in the device menu.

The new auditor distro also works with the intel 2200. The drivers are plug and play with the 2200. I don't believe it goes into monitor mode though.

I have Windows XP Pro and I think that auditor distro is for linux. Isn't there something else I can do to make NS work or do I have to buy a new wireless card?

Did you understand posts 8, 11, & 12? The "Auditor distro" is a live CD.
