lots of gaps between vertical green lines?
I am having a nightmare with wireless - please help before I throw everything out the window!
I have Toshiba Tecra M2 with an Intel 2100 3B mini pci card. I have xp pro with the sp 2 update installed. I have a Speedtouch 570 wireless router. The utility called Client Manager just says "No wireless network card present" even though there is and somtimes have full connection. I also have a 2nd laptop running win2000 with a speedtouch 120 USB access point - works perfectly and never had a problem. Seems to work through something called Client manager. I seem to get totaly random connection on the Tosh. I constantly have to switch between Wirelss zero configuration on and off, disabling and then enabling the driver, messing about with Intel Proset for Wireless. Sometimes it works, sometimes after messing about it comes back on, and times like now nothing I can do will make it work. I have spent hours looking on the support sections of Toshiba, Intel and Microsoft but to no avail. I read something about the power settings and turned off the auto power setting on pro-set. Also half the time Net stumbler doesnt even pick up anything. Its as if the network card isn't working. If I switch back on Windows control and then then search for wireless networks using Pro Set, its eems to kick start it again. Does anyone know why one laptop works 100% fine and this one does not. I have net stumbler running at the moment on the Tosh, and it has green lines running around 60 to 65 on the Signal/Noise graph. For every green line there pretty much seems to be a gap which I'm guessing means it keeps picking up and then losing connection. The other laptop is fine though.... help? |

You shouldn't be using NS when trying to connect to a network. Netstumbler is designed to interupt the connection and steals your wireless card all for it's self. Lets face it, you know the network is there, why do you need NS to tell you?

I have only been using Net stumbler to see if there is a difference from one machine to another. When I am trying to connect I always close it down. I think that if I am using one PC to browse the web, the blank lines will appear on the other PC's net stumbler graph - would that be correct?
anyway, still doesn't solve my problem why I cant get my tosh wireless connection to work. This can only mean that I will give up soon... on life.... |

Don't make me do a text search of electronic copies of the books for another obscure quote about making sure I have my towel or about the time I won that award for the fjords.
OK fine, I'll listen to the radio program, AGAIN. |
