netgear WG511 ant. help

I have a netgear WG511 PCMCIA wifi card, and want to put an external antenna on it. I have done a lot of searching and found out that it has a U.FL (Highrose) connector in it. Almost all of the posts i have seen said it can't be used as an antenna port, but didnt give an exact answer why. From what I gathered, the connector is rated for 100 insertions (after 100, it might break off, leaving the card useless). From what i have read, the jack is only used as a test probe port to test the cards functionality after being built. All of the posts i have seen said "I just built/bought a highrose to N-Type cable, and will post the results". Only 1 person posted that it didnt work, and that person didnt even know if s/he had the right cable.

I want to get an external jack on this puppy one way or another. Doing any kind of soldier work isnt a big deal for me, i have 11 years electronics experience. When it comes to radio stuff however, im still learning (im studyin' for my FCC Ham Radio Licence.)

Now, i know this is a damn dumb ass question, but can i soldier a jack to the antenna to the wi-fi card in some way, shape, or form? I think that would be a better soloution than using the highrose jack that probabbly wont work.

Another problem i have with the WG511 highrose jack is that any kind of adapter cable will put some stress on the PCMCIA card. Im sure i can Duct-Tape a soloution, but i would like something a little more perminant.

If i can get a definate YES to weather the highrose jack works, then ill just build or buy a cable for it, otherwise, what other soloutions would i have?

It's interesting to note that with 11 years of electronics experience you don't know the difference between soldier and solder.

That aside, you can certainly solder LMR-100 coax directly onto just about any PCMCIA or CardBUS wireless card out there and connect an external antenna to it that way.

I have a technology major, not english. Im paid to do math, not write ;} But anyways, if there is a jack that can be used, i might as well use it.

I have a small cardbus Wi-Fi card in my laptop i can gain access to and route my own antenna cable to, but i dont know what thename of the connector is. Once i get a straight honest comment from someone, ill work on that.

Well the coax answer was an honest answer and has been done many times. I guess you have a problem with reading as well as writing... I find it interesting that anyone that claims to be educated would also comment on the lack of their writing ability. Having a technology major is great but one day you will need to write something (with correct spelling) that your peers will read. Do you want them to know you are a dumbass at english?

Looks like they make a special tool for disconnecting the little beastie so you don't tear up stuff.

Also note that jack is not meant for repeated insertion/removal cycles. It is used for final testing of the card.

Had you bothered to read the FAQ you'd quickly see the reason why. It's right there in Big Bold Letters

Quote:
These pigtails come with a warning, however: These connectors are designed for testing purposes, not long term use. Hirose connectors are designed for a maximum of 100 insertions

AND

Quote:
Therefore, regular use will lead to the quick end of your pigtail and possably (sic) the card. Don't expect pigtails to be cheap: Like all microwave cables prices are high because of the work involved in producing them. Extra cost may be experianced (sic) with Hirose connectors becuase (sic) of their relative rareity (sic).
Just in case your english is bad FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Question.
