My internet was working fine until I installed NetStumbler. It said, however, when installing it, that NetStumbler needed to make some changes to my card. This is what it says on the ReadMe --> "A10B. When using the Prism driver, it stops the Wireless Zero Configuration service and checks for a blank or "ANY" SSID. If necessary, it makes changes to the card's registry settings and prompts you to reinsert the card."
My Internet connection didn't work so I uninstalled the drivers and restarted the computer. Now, Windows XP SP2 recognizes my wireless card as an 'unknown device' even though the appropriate software is installed. I tried reinstalling the software, deleting the unknown device, and rebooting, but it still doesn't work. It's almost like NetStumbler turned off the wireless card, or messed with the firmware. I uninstalled NetStumbler, but it didn't fix the problem. Anybody have any ideas? |

Search around......
NS stops thw "Wireless Zero Config" service before it starts, which is the message you saw. normally it is restated after you exit NS, but if NS crashed or your dicking with it in taskMgr then the service might be started.

I got a USB Diagnostic tool and the output is this:
Device Descriptor: bcdUSB: 0x0000 bDeviceClass: 0x00 bDeviceSubClass: 0x00 bDeviceProtocol: 0x00 bMaxPacketSize0: 0x00 (0) idVendor: 0x0000 idProduct: 0x0000 bcdDevice: 0x0000 iManufacturer: 0x00 iProduct: 0x00 iSerialNumber: 0x00 bNumConfigurations: 0x00 ConnectionStatus: DeviceFailedEnumeration Current Config Value: 0x00 Device Bus Speed: Low Device Address: 0x00 Open Pipes: 0 It looks like the usb wireless card is failing all communication. Any ideas? |

Or the "Safely remove Hardware" utility was run and that device was stopped. So Windows or anything else for that matter is not talking to it. You'll need to unplug and re-insert the device in order for Windows to re-establish communications with the device.
