Netstumbler for Windows 98?

I downloaded netstumbler 0.4.0 and installed it in Windows 98SE and now realize that it will only work in XP or 2000. Is there a version that will run in Windows 98SE? I did try it but my Omnibook 4150 just keeps hanging when I run it. I looked around the Web site and could not find any older versions.

I think the latest version of netstumbler will work on 98 with a hermes based card. Though the old version only works with a hermes based card as well.

Netstumbler for Windows 98

I purchased an Agere Systems Orinoco Gold P/N 024205/B and installed and got it going before installing Netstumbler.

NS 0.4.0 will work just fine with Win9x as long as you use a Hermes card (ORiNOCO Classic.) I've used it on Win95, Win98 and Win98SE.

On the other hand, if you have WinME just slit you wrists now and be done with it. (Just kidding. It will run on that POS, too.)

If it doesn't say 8410-WD on the card, then it's not the Orinoco Classic Gold, but the Dork-card. Dork-card = SOL.

???? card ID

I went out and purchased another card. The box says 8410-WD on it, took awhile to find . I cannot see anywhere on the card itself that part number. So how do I know that I got the correct card? So far I found using netstumbler 040 in Win98se sort of works with this new card. If I leave the card out start netstumbler then insert the card it will run. If the card is in when I start netstumbler it will hang the laptop.

Did you install a client manager with the card as well? If you did, chances are it's running when you have the card already install when you boot up. NS starts up, tries to access the card and can't because you're using win98 and a client manager. It works if you insert the card after NS is running because the client manager hasn't started yet.

That's my guess.

Fcc Id

the FCC ID is IMRWLPCE2411R
the P/N 026258/A
The box it came in has P/N 8410-WD on it in a couple places.
The card has a purple kind of label with a bunch of white dots going across the top up to a WiFi symbol, below that the words "ORINOCO Wireless Networks" and below that the word "Classic" (in gold with a black backgound) and then the words "Gold PC Card" (in black with a gold background).
Man I sure hope this is the correct card. Took awhile to find it locally.
