network security
i have wireless network and am trying to test its security. Netstumbler shows 2 green AP's and I have SSID for both... The more brilliant amongst you would use a program to war drive through the sky net i guess? Is an SSID alone enough? But how from just having an SSID... When I am connected i can send but not receive...
I would like to point out that this i my network I am trying to make secure by testing ease of access before and after security systems have been installed. "I solemly declare I am up to no good" - Harry Potter |

If the network has WEP enabeled, you will need to know the key. If it does not have wep enabeled, they may be using some kind of filtering (mac, IP, or name).
You can NOT use NetStumbler while trying to connect to a wireless network. Netstumbler isn't really a wireless security tool. It is more useful for site surveys and wardriving.

NS shows 2 AP's. Well if you have 2 AP's that sounds right. As for SSID you wouldn't need NS to show you them (if they were your AP's you would already have them). When you are connected you can send but not receive? So you are saying your wireless network does not work? It wont get any more secure than that! What "security systems" do you plan to install? Right off the bat your post has a certain odor to it! |
