New to wifi but learning fast. Linux

Greetings. I have been searching and reading this forum for some time now and decided it was high time I joined in on all this fun. Have my basic wifi working and I even built myself a basic can-tenna.

Here is what I have.
OS: Puppy Linux 1.0.3 HD Install

Machine: IBM ThinkPad 770Z,
366pII mobile
14gig
192mb

Card
Orinoco classic gold

Driver
Plug-n-play orinoco-cs

The connection shows up in iwconfig as eth0 as if it were plugged in.

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"home" Nickname:"HERMES I"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.447GHz Access Point: 00:E0:98:DE:D3:33
Bit Rate:11Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Sensitivity:1/3
Retry limit:4 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:64/92 Signal level:-37 dBm Noise level:-101 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I would really like to be able to do some network seeking and signjal testing for a neighbohood network. We are in a rural area and it would be nice to be able to "Fine Tune" our antennas.

Since I am pretty new to linux I don't know what apps I can convert to run on Puppy. I have run some debian distros and had no problem with make, etc on those but Puppy dosn't use the huge librarys. Does anyone have any suggestions for apps and settings?

Thanks :D

Your gonna have patch the drivers for the Orinoco and make Kismet from source then successively get each needed library as the make will fail many times since Puppy is REALLY stripped down.

It can be done but it'll take some work.

I had the feeling that was going to be the case. I guess I can boot to libranet when I want to use the librarys.
Where might one find this driver patch?

I am about to buy another card for another linux laptop. Any suggestions?
