Lightbulb new to wireless tech

I have just moved house and there is a dsl connection on the main pc. I have a laptop and wish to acces the net from my room. I got a link sys wireless router and a belkin usb wireless adapter. I can connect to the router fine its the main pc is the problem. It is not wireless enabled and we tried to connect to the router with the built in 4 port switch while installiong the software supplied it gets to the point where it is configuring the router and then throws up a problem with connecting to the router. The main pc is a p4 2.2 with 512mb of ram and the netowrk adapter is a realtek rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic the os is win xp home and the dsl modem is a nettopia caymen 3300

Heres a hint;

You probably use PPPOE, and you don't have to have the software loaded on either computer after the account is setup and you have a router.
