Noob question How do I implement scripts

I've read quite a bit about NS's scripting ability but I can't seem to get it to work. I've downloaded the "Master Script" with speech and such from the scripts section and played around but am not able to get it to work. In the options menu under scripting, I used external and pointed to the file I hoped to use but get error msgs. Can anyone take the time to give me a quick how-to?

Thanx

Do you have the associated applications and programs installed?

What are the error messages?

Scripting help needed

I've got the latest version of NS and MapPoint 2004 installed. I created a folder in the NS directory and put all of the files 'scripts' that I got from the "master" into it- turned on external scripting in NS and chose the 'master04' script to point it to and then chose vb from the drop down. I get a voice saying something about speech with microsoft mary, mappoint opens, but I get an error saying,
"An error reported in your script."
Mircosoft VBScript runtime error
Type mismatch 'cSymbol1.Symbol
Line:1 Char:1

It is much easir for someone to provide assistance when they don't have to beg for details.

Sorry for the breach in etiquette...I guess that's why I started in the Newbie area. Alright, now that that's off my chest my system is as follows:

Gateway m460xl
Pentium M 770 2.13 GHz
1gig of DDR2 PC4200 ram
Orinoco Classic Gold card using Wild Packets AiroPeek NX Driver
-internal intel b/g wifi card disabled-
xp pro sp2

No other errors or problems with either hardware or software...Just trying to learn about and use scripts.

I don't consider that a "breach in etiquette". It's more a matter of how bad do you want an answer...

The useful help you get is directly proportional to the quality/quantity of the info related to the problem provided.

I'm trying to remember, does that script need to be in the NS root directory?

It looks like that error is covered in the master script thread. Did you try a search?

Master script for NetStumbler 0.4

The corrective action / troubleshooting procedure is in that thread as well.

Thanks. I think I'm getting a bit closer. I've got MP to open to my home area by changing settings in the 'settings' script. What I'm still not clear about after reading those posts is do I need another icon/symbol file and should I be using the ns04master script or the 20041030? Thanks for your help..I'm almost there!
