I know this would just be easier in Gentoo or RedHat but that is not an option for me anyway:
I was just looking into WEPLab and was trying to capture packets in Eathereal while connected to my own wireless router. I'm just curious as to how long it would take to break my own 128mb key. But when I capture packets and save them in pcap format and run it through weplab I never seems to work. How do I get the packets from the router if I can't connect to it unless I put my key in.. AND when I am connected to the router with my key shouldn't it be capturing the packets correctly and able to crack the ke instead of just canceling out of it. Thanks for any and all info. I'm on a XP machine using a Dell Truemobile 1300 OR or a ZyAir B-101 wireless card to do the capturing. Thanks, David |

Doesn't work like that. You need a program to capture the 'raw' data off the radio. Ethereal will decode and display packets captured by utilities like airodump. When you get a pile of packets using airodump, you can toggle the decode back and forth in Ethereal and observe how the packets appear encrypted and unecrypted since you KNOW your own key. Search on Google for airodump or airocrack.
