Exclamation Passphrase to wep key algorithm

Can some one give me a reference on where can I learn how to convert a plaintext passprhase to a wep key?

I just know that for 40 bits you use a PRNG to get four keys and for 128 bits you use MD5 and get one key, but I will like to know how is this done?

Thanks

Manuel.

Look at the bottom. Thats the way Windows WZC and a lot of client managers do it. The ascii text needs to be 13 characters for 128 bit key.

There is no universal way that is accepted by every manufacturer. Different manufacturers generate the passphrase differently. Some go straight to HEX, others do hash-type conversions using proprietary algorithms.

The best thing you can do is stick to a straight HEX conversion, since that is accepted by all makes and models at least as a manual entry.

You type in a bunch of shit and then write down the hex key that's generated.

My security is often put at risk by this method: My technique of shouting the hex key down the length of my flat to my waiting housemate needs improving. Especially when a comms error means we have to go through the process two or three times (I maintain that he's the tard in this situation).
