PDA help...

Ok..obviously i am very new to this...but i have a couple of questions. i have been researching getting a pda set up to be capable of wifi. my first question is...on PDA's, is there a usb attached to most models? lets say i was at a wifi spot and checking my email and wanted to download files from outlook, (for example photos, and other types of files) would it be possible to get a mini usb external hard drive and download them onto that? also, my second question..why exactly do you use the gps system? just to map out all the access points for future reference? all info is greatly appreciated.

That would really depend upon the model you're looking at. Go to a Staples or Orifice Depot and look at all the models there. Pick one out with a USB port. There's litterally dozens of PDA's out there, with many different features. Do the research, pick what best suits you.

If you were to get one with a USB port you could get a Sandisk USB dongle up to 1gig to copy data onto. I believe they run around $120.00 but that price may vary.

To map trends in Wireless growth in any given area. I've seen a major growth in my area in the past 3 years. Where 3 years ago, I might find the odd AP here or there, now I find 100 - 200 just driving 10 miles.

A visit to www.brighthand.com may help. The discussions there cover a lot of territory about Wireless PDA use, file transfer, synching, and so on. I have used both Pocket PCs and Palms with each having advantages and disadvantages. Pockets PCs tend to transfer files directly, Palms tend to convert in and out, but that depends on what you are doing. Some Palms look like a USB drive when cradled but they don't have a USB port per se.

There are only 2 or 3 pda's with usb host. Most are usb devices, unable to connect to other devices. If you are wanting to connect usb keyboards and stuff like that it has to be a host.
