Only when we want to make sure that you Mac guys can read it...
But if you insist, we'll make it a 7 bit EBCDIC TeX or a SGML document instead...

I appreciate the link to the PDF converter. However, I own a copy of Acrobat. For a previous employer, I converted THOUSANDS of Word, Powerpoint and Excel documents to PDF's. I even wrote a VB routine for automating some of the more tedious parts of processing multiple documents.

Again though, thank you. I think I'll download that one and give it a try, just for grins. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up to PDF Writer and Distiller.

Cheers

I,ve got a 1300 foot link with roughly the same equipment with the exception that I did not jack up the power on the router and it works well. It is line of site of course... with NO obstructions.
The odds on the FCC catching you is slim unless you live in a fairly populated area but the consequences of getting caught are such that you will have wished that you did not mess witht the router RF power output if they do. Personally I would try it with just the yagis first. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Your contribution to this thread falls under the category of "Too little, too late.." Almost 6 months too late actually, since Sleepingdog has set up everything. Next time when you decide to post to a thread that contains several pages of posts, READ the thread to the end, since chances are that all issues has been resolved. Especially if the thread has been dormant for half a year like this one..

IOW : USE the brain, that's why you got it.

I have recently followed this entire thread as I am also attempting to create almost the exact same scenario with two linksys wrt54g wireless routers myself. I have tried various configurations to no avail prior to locating this forum and thread. I have not tried to flash the firmware though. Frankly I am looking to read the final configuration notes on Sleeping Dog's success but I have been unable to locate same. I have checked other threads within these forums on hardware & wifi and do not find a file upload/download area or am I missing something?

The moral of this story is I need help simply locating Sleeping Dog's final configuration notes? Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance!
Todd

Before doing anything else, go read ALL the threads in the Welcome Desk section. Pay particular note to the thread regarding usage of proper English on the forums. Disregard the advice given at your own peril.

Todd, The configuration settings you're requesting are very basic networking 101 skills. Many members here are wifi-networking guru's and IT professionals that tend to become very irritated when new members request basic information, that could have been found with a quick search.

To establish a link with two wrt's, one is going to have to be in Client Mode, which requires third party firmware. There are many different firmware versions out there that will allow your wrt to run in client mode. You will have to research which fw will best support your needs.

This is one possible scenario. Open Wide!!!!

Actually, you can use a WRT54G and a WAP54G to accomplish this with the default firmware, as a WAP54G will function as a Repeater/Bridge to the WRT54G.

It can also be done with a pair of WAP54G's, but I'm not sure if it can be done with a pair of WRT's.

That is Correct!

Butt with two wrt's, he's going to need sveasoft, dd-wrt, openwrt, or other third party firmware.

Also Todd, Verify your router version to check fw compatibility. Direct line of sight, mounting hardware indoors vs outdoor enclosures, antennas, and Ethernet plus power supply vs PoE are issue's you will have to account for also.

Thank you all for your replies. A big question has been answered here. I will need a third party firmware on at least one of the routers. I had to leave in a hurry and did not log out properly. My cousin died unexpectedly yesterday. It was a bit of a shock. When I return I will post my exact set up in complete detail. I have been spanking my head on this for a couple of weeks already when I found this forum. I have a direct line of site at less than 250 feet. I first used net stumbler to verify that my antennae are aimed correctly. One side is a Hawking 9dbi omni and the other a cantenna (home made). I was unsure if it actually worked untill I discovered Net Stumbler. There will be a donation made right away when I return!
