Both NIC's in the routing PC have real world IP's. One is assigned by the ISP (DHCP enabled), the other is the 192.168.0.1 on the local network side. Our ISP makes people pay extra for static IP's.

Or go with the easy solution, drop using Windows ICS, connect one of the Linksys WRT54GS's right after the DSL modem, and then the switch to one of the LAN ports on that WRT. Use the Linksys WRT54GS as it was meant to be used : a combined WiFi acesspoint and Router.
Of course that will only work, if you still have RF-LOS from the place where the DSL modem is, to the barn. Otherwise you need to do a double cat5 run from the DSL modems postion to where the GS should be, and back from there to the switch.

As Thorn said earlier, and again in the previous post: Hardware beats software* for routing purposes. It takes the headache out of the equation.

I might just have to do that if I do a similar permanent setup like this at my place, but I am trying as closely as possible to simulate what is at the farm where this rig will find its permanent home. Besides, I'm learning a lot about this from you good folks.

I have also discovered that "Lots of Patients" is the operative term with this project. If I don't get this sucker working right soon, I will probably get to know lots of patients at the mental hospital.

I would do that, Dutch, but like I said before, I am trying to "emulate" what is already in place there... have considered the double CAT-5 option too as I am trying to keep the Hi-gain antennae wires under 5 ft in length.

I feel like I'm so darned close to having this working. All pings are getting through now, even over the bridge, except pinging the ISP.

Fair enough, but wouldn't you be better served buying your sister a hardware router for her setup? I wouldn't doubt that you're going to have this exact same problem using the PC and ICS. PCs doing routing duties never work well in my experience.

Hot duckety...I'm getting closer.
Just for giggles, I added the MAC addresses of both NIC cards to the "allow" list.
I reset the WRT #1 to "DHCP enabled" and plugged in the ISP's host and Domain names. I then reset the network address server setting to "DHCP forwarder".

I can now ping the ISP address. Still not "on the Internet" yet, but I think I'm getting close.

Going to have to take a break. My girlfriend just arrived with dinner... Got to get it while it's hot. That applies to the food too.

Can you ping something other then your ISP?, Ie. 64.233.161.99(google).

If you can, Maybe your DNS is to blame, try http://64.233.161.99

If you get to Google It may be a DNS issue.

Pinged 64.233.161.99 successfully (even though she is rubbing my back and telling me that I had better come to dinner.)

What should I change in DNS settings?

EUREKA!

I hit Google across the bridge with the direct shot. (http://64.233.161.99)

It has to be a DNS resolution issue. (Doesn't it?)

192.168.x.x is not a 'real world' range. It's what I call the weenie network. But it does not exist out there in the real world internet. It's a private IP network, just like 10.x.x.x and the 172's.

Have your DHCP server give out the DNS servers for your ISP to the clients. Make sure that if you have a firewall that it allows Port 53 UDP outbound.
