Is this power adapter ok to use...?

I am thinking of buying this to power my 500MHz lappy just to use while stumbling. I don't think I would ever hook up my Dell 8600 to it though. Any thoughts on it? Safe to use?

I've used similar things like that without any problem.

That is whats known as an inverter. They work well. I use my laptop 120 or 130 (can't remember) watt version of that one.

I bought a cheap one in the Dallas-Ft Worth airport on my way to Hawaii, used it on the plane.. Worked great there and in the rental cars.

For stumblin' I bought the DC adaptor that supplies 19v directly to my notebook so I don't have to use the brick with my notebook in the car.

That's the better way to do rather than an inverter.

Yeah, but the inverter was way cheaper, and I being a poor college student couldn't justify buying it when the inverter would really work ok.

I believe the 140 watt job has an internal fan for cooling. The lower powered one, I think 90 watts or something near that is the one I have and it frequently overheats and starts beeping after about an hour. It learned how to fly about 2 weeks ago.

I am almost afraid to ask... But I just want to know!

That would be Clarence, and Bobby doesn't fly, although he does make a nice hood ornament.

Back on topic:
Costco has 400W units for$24.99. They're an off brand: "Power by Xanax", but they're much cheaper than Rat Shack's ($100 for 400W) and seem to work OK. Each comes with both battery terminal clamps as well as a cigarette-lighter plug. There's an internal fan and LED readouts for input voltage, output voltage and output watts.

Yeah, my 100 watt is exactly the same. There's nothing quite like driving around in winter, with cool air blowing out the vents onto the inverter, just because it's crap. Wardriving with it is almost impossible in summer time; last year I started on plans to roof my inverter.
