Pulled over in the uk and xperiences with UK police ?
Apologisies if I am posting this to the wrong forum section but I tried posting to the wardriving section and was told I didn't have permissions to access the page. Hmm. In the UK section there is very little activity so I am hoping I will get more chance of an answer here. And I have searched the forums for similar posts. So --
Ok - new to "wardriving". I live in the UK. Have no intention of connecting to APs as I have my own network at home in the warm and comfort of my own house ! So just to make it absolutely clear that I have no intention of commiting any crimes as far as I know it the definition of "crimes" to be, and as far as I know it, merely cataloguing APs isn't a crime in the UK. I'd be shocked to corrected on that one, fwiw. My cousin is a policeman and he's never heard of wardriving and was instantly suspicious when I mentioned the concept to him. He was extrapolating the "worst that can be achieved" options IYSWIM. This is not to imply that this is indicative of all UK police BTW. My question is - there is much here about wardriving and experience with the police in the USA posted here but has anyone got any light to shed on it as a UK issue ? Anyone been pulled over by the UK police and discovered wardriving and if so, how did it go ? My own experiences with the police in other areas of the law have been mixed - I had extensive involvement with them when someone was stalking me and they were very helpful and sympthetic. On the other hand I have been deliberately, I suspect, elbowed in the eye by a copper at a peaceful animal rights demonstration. So obviously it depends on the individual copper as to what attitude you will get when having contact with them but -- any thoughts from UK'ers on the wardriving issue ? Well, when I went warwalking in London & Edinburgh they never stopped me.
Even when I have a backpack with a 6-7ft antt. mast sticking out...... I think the entire time I was in the UK (2 weeks) I was only asked (by civi's) maybe 4 times what I was doing.. I just said "GPS based Geodesic mapping survey for Mobile phone communications." 99.9 % of the time they went "OK", and walked away. ![]() "I babbled them with Science"..... ![]()

![]() Just got my gps unit this morning so I am planning a drive out today. I guess I am one fo those less likely to be pulled over in the norla scheme fo things anyway - boyfriend drives (I don't hold a license anymore due to eye problems) and we both look like respectable thirtysomethings. Probably cos we are ! |
