Hello,
I have a passphrase problem with my netgear AP 602 version 2. It worked for 1 year with the WEP enabled; running 2 laptops off of it. I tried to add a 3rd laptop, however cannot remember my passphrase. I tried resetting the netgear and giving it a new passphrase. Now, it will not take any passphrase. I can still log on but without WEP enabled. I have run netstumbler and found that there are 16 other AP's in the area. I believe mine is the only one that is unsecure. Can anyone tell me how to reset my passphrase or can I locate my passphrase on my laptop, perhaps in the registry? Thanks, Desperately seeking security... |

Those two sentences don't jive. If you don't know your passphrase, reset it in your AP either via the Webinterface or hit the hardware reset button on the AP.

Sounds like it is time for you to breakout and RTFM. Did you setup your own AP? Did you enable WEP? Does NS show it as WEP enabled? Have you forgotten your passphrase? If you did then you may well have to factory reset your AP and start over (as mentioned above). You may be able to recover it from the AP (if it is your AP and you have access to the admin page). Also as mentioned in the above post, something here is not adding up. Tread lightly or face certain banishment! Last edited by wrzwaldo : 01-30-2005 at 04:57 PM. |

So do you have an AP or a Router with integrated AP? What is the exact model number off the unit? Did you setup your own AP? Did you enable WEP? Does NS show it as WEP enabled? |

Turn off the power on the AP. Applying slight to moderate pressure to reset button on the back of the router using a paperclip,#9 sewing needle, 0.7 mm mechanical pencil, BIC fine tip pen, A Jeweler's screwdriver or similiar device and turn the power back on. Holding the reset button for 30 seconds. Turn the router back off. Remove pressure from reset button by removing pressured delivering device and re-apply power to the router. Your router should now be reset to factory default settings.

Hey,
I had the box and the manual that I wrote my passphrase and other configs down on. That was a year ago next month. In that time, somewhere in between, the box for my wireless AP with the manuals in it, are either misplaced or thrown out. Thus, I no longer have them. I did try resetting the reset button on the back of the AP. I also tried renaming my passphrase afterwards. However, it did not accept any new passphrase. I can log on to the network. But I cannot enable my WEP. It worked until I added a 3rd laptop to it but could not remember my passphrase. I have tried logging on the AP website using the IP address. It will not let me on to the site. So I am in desperate need of help. I do not want to buy a new access point. |

If that doesn't work, it's probably pooched. In that case, buy a new router.
