scan for 802.11b camera using wlan-card?
is it possible to scan for 802.11b camera using just a laptop with a wlan-card?

or do i need some other equipments?

Thorn just gave a presentation about this subject at the ShmooCon 2005.
His dedicated WarSpy site isn't operational yet, but has a link to a temporary page with his WarSpy software.

Just a note: WarSpy isn't for 802.11b cameras, it's for NTSC/PAL cameras operating in the ISM band. Same freqs, different modulation type.

I stand by my original answer based upon the original question. No it can't be done with just a notebook and WLan card. You need other stuff.

An 802.11b wireless camera is just a wireless client on a wireless network. You'll be able to detect, but not in a drive by type fashion. If you came and connected one to my wireless network, for example, I could discover it using only my laptop and wireless card.

Maybe true enough, connecting to the network, doing scan of the network, looking at the responding devices. But I believe the OP was looking for a 'pop-up' solution, like NS does with AP's.

Of course, why would anyone want to detect cameras, planning on spying on your neighbors nannycam?

Yeah, that's how I interpretted also his question. I think the multi-functional deployment of devices within the 2.4 gig range must be causing confusions.
