Signal to Noise Ratio

I was wondering if there was an existing chart, or if someone could post what the minimum signal-to-noise ratio should be for all available transmission rates? e.g.

xxdB = 5.5Mbps
10dB = 11Mbps
xxdB = 54Mbps

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

Thorn,

Could you explain your "10dB. Period." statement?
When I look at the stumbler it shows -100 for noise.
I guess I just really don't understand what I am looking for or what you mean.

Thanks!

It shows -100 because you are using unsupported hardware.

Well it doesn't always show -100, I was just using my current reading as an example. If i move to a different part of the building it does fluctuate some. I have seen readings in the -80's up to -200's.

I am using 2 cards:

Orinoco (LT) PC24E-H-FC
Cisco AIR-CB21AG-A-K9

Is either one of those a Hermes based card?

I don't know about the Cisco card but the Orinoco card is shown on the link below as one that will work.

I was under the impression that flaming wasn't allowed in the newbie forum.

Is this really that bad of a question. I know I am not using unsupported hardware. I just don't understand the noise/signal stuff.

No reason to be rude.

Could you point to a flame in this thread?

You say "I know I am not using unsupported hardware." But yet you do not know what chipset you are using.

Maybe not a vicious flame, but certainly unnecessary.

I know I am not using unsupported hardware because the link below shows my card and claims that it will work.
