Stupid Newbie Question

I am trying to use NetStumbler (and searched for my question), and know that I have to use auto-reconfigure to find networks, but would it affect connectability to my network in any way? My card uses a prism2 chipset, and my network uses both SSID and WEP.
Thanks!

"I am trying to use NetStumbler (and searched for my question),"

Really?

"and know that I have to use auto-reconfigure to find networks,"

You're already incorrect

"but would it affect connectability to my network in any way?"

Netstumbler will, yes. Read the readme.

"My card uses a prism2 chipset,"

As long as it is WIFi certified, you should be able to connect to your AP.

"and my network uses both SSID"

No way!

"and WEP."

Good to hear.

(too lazy to quote you properly)

That is the problem I'm getting, the main thing being this (yes I read the readme a few times) "Configure your card with a blank SSID or, if a blank one is not permitted, "ANY" (without quotes)."

I am not sure if configuring the card with a blank SSID would keep me from being able to connect to my network (I don't use wireless very often, but wardriving has gotten my interest), and am not sure exactly how to go about changing it.

Set up an alternate profile.

By the way, you might want to take some BASIC security steps. The first would be to change your SSID from the default of "linkys".

Well it technically isn't my network, I'm on vacation, but that's beside the point

As I've said, I have almost no experience with wireless networks (besides standard port forwarding and the like), so how exactly do I set up different profiles?

It differs according to the software. Read the manual that came with your card.

Ask the owner of the AP for assistance
