Thinkpad T41 RS-232 help.
Hi folks.
I've had a Thinkpad T41 for a few months, got interested in Wi-Fi stuff .. blah blah, and i intend using NetStumbler with a GPS (Garmin eTrex possibly). T41 doesn't have an RS-232 port, so rather than get the massively bukly IBM port replicator, i seen a PCMCIA Cardbus to RS-232 adaptor on eBay .. would this work, because i've read all about GPS + USB so i wouldn't attempt it. Thanks in Advance !! |

Thanks for your advice guys, i'll look into what you suggested .. because i was unaware that USB was supported with NetStumbler so that opens up my options
I found this sorta thing, but i'll have a proper look when i have time. Thanks again ![]() Last edited by alzaman : 05-21-2007 at 07:42 PM. |

GPS Receiver
Would the above device be compatible with NS, i'm not entirely sure with it being USB and i'm aware NS isn't compatible with USB, or some dispute about, from what i've read on here. Cheers Again Al |

It DOES support standard serial ports, and most USB GPS's (with the exception of various GARMIN models) provides a Virtual comport driver, which let the USB gps appear as a standard serial device to any applications. Most of these USB devices uses the Prolific PL2303 USB-to-Serial chipset as that solution. Contact the supplier, or check the GPS manufacturers website for verification or non-verification whether the device you are interested in using, does this. Dutch
