Question Updates & WEP in list.

Hello!

NetStumber v0.4 has been out for like a year or more. Will it ever be updated again?

I was told that NetStumbler will always show WEP even if the AP is using other encryption like WPA. Is this true? If so, then is there a way to show WPA instead of WEP?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, you can use a hex editor and modify the program to say WPA all the time. I changed mine to say "YES".

Uh, I don't want all encrypted APs to say the same thing. :P I want NetStumbler to be able to tell the differences in encryptions: None, WEP, WPA, etc. Hence, why I asked if there would be a newer version? I assume this version was when WEP was around for encryption.

That's not what you asked!

Make a donation to the author (Marius) and ask him to include that in the next release.

Never ASS-U-ME...

If you had a good memory the newest version had come out before the implimentation of WPA. You could have looked at the dates on the release of the newest version and googled for the first WPA ecrypted AP and then did the math to figure out the answer. Marius doesn't charge for the use of his software. He does ask for donations and instead of sitting in the forum bitching about something it doesn't do, make a hefty donation and ask the programmer himself to add the feature you would like. That is If he has the time.

NetStumbler will show WEP when encryption is in use. If you want to know what kind of encryption is in use, you have to look at the 802.11 capability field shown as flags. I'll leave it up to you to figure out what values show which kind of encryption. As the only hint : Read the all the IEEE 802.11* specs.
