Using NS to diagnose connection problems
I thought I'd use NS to do some debugging but now I'm not sure it will serve my particular purpose. Here's the scenario your suggestions are appreciated.
I've got a D-link di-614 wap/router and 3 laptops connected (1 wired/2 wireless). I use 128bit WEP and MAC filtering. Well I got a new work laptop (4) with built-in wireless (intel 2100) on a Dell D800 latitude. It's running XP Pro. I've tried every trick I can think of to get this laptop to connect to my AP. It refuses. With XP zero config running AND the Intel Proset running, both programs see my AP but neither connects nor obtains an IP. I've tried disabling zero config (via services;stop/disable). I still see the AP but can't get an IP (DHCP or manual (no surfing)). Vice versa with proset. I've tried removing WEP from the AP and MAC filtering. Using NS I've see the AP with the WEP lock and without. Any ideas or other diagnostic programs that might help me track down this problem? |

I have a 'similar' setup.
I have a few wired and wireless machines on a dlink 624. One of my laptops is a Dell i8600 w/ the same wireless card, although I killed the Intel software altogether. On occasion, I have issues where the machine won't connect to the router no matter what. I only *seem* to have the issue on occasion when another laptop is on the network using wireless (G card/G router). I've found the only way to get it to connect is to reset the router. I'm guessing so far it has something to do w/ a flakyness in the router firmware, but I don't know for sure. So, my suggestion to you would be to turn off all the mac filtering and wep and just try resetting the laptop and the router to see if it will connect. It's worth a try. Let us know how it goes.

(3 towers, 1 laptop with built in realtek) as well as assign IP's to the DWL 650+ card, the 3Com 589B and D cards I have (ya, they are 10mbit but everything loves em) and the Etherjet IBM pcmcia card. the only card that does not work with Static DHCP is the Orinico, I got emails out to both Proxim and Dlink about that.. How I get my Orinico to work is I have to static an IP to it...

Interesting. My Orinoco (Dell Truemobile 1150 w/Orinoco firmware) connects fine. I tried the laptop at work on the IT admin's rogue Netgear WAP and the laptop connected just fine. So it appears to be an issue with my D-link AP. I did find that there is new firmware for the DI-614+ WAP/router (v 3.43) it can be downloaded from support.dlink.com
It looks like there's a firmware update for the 624 router also. |

As pointed out in another forum here.. there are about 2-3 different chipsets of the Gold card (and its rebranded breatheren) so there is a difference
