Just replying because I thought that a "virtual" access point was a funny idea; I just wondered what such a thing might be. Afterall, getting a card and related pc to work as an "access point" is hardly worthy of the word "virtual". Try linux.
Under windows, this might help, but probably wont: My homemade AP

Yeah, I was pretty much after some extra software I could install to use this laptop (not mine), as an access point, because I have a Canon iP4000R printer, that I am trying to connect to the laptop wirelessly. But the printer requires an AP (I was told differently prior to purchasing the printer). And the owner of the laptop is too cheap to buy an Access Point.

I'm not so sure, my Orinoco AP500 is basically a 386 with a wireless card. Where does the line get drawn between access point and PC? There's a whole boat load of software that can be installed onto my WRT54G and it is kind of a PC: Something personal that computes.
