What do I need?
Here's my scenario: I have a computer at my house connecting to my neighbor's computer across the street to share files and printers. Here's the equipment we have set up and working:
1 BEFW11S4 wireless router at Site 1 1 Linksys range expander at Site 1 1 computer w/ PCI wireless NIC at Site 2 1 high powered antenna connected to PCI NIC at Site 2 Here's my question: The above works just fine, however, I would like to be able to connect multiple computers at site 2. The way it is set up now, site 2's computer has to be using the cantenna to connect. Which Linksys device could I get to provide wireless access to extend the connection throughout site 2? Would another BEFW11S4 at site 2? A WAP11? I was thinking I would get a router/AP and hook the cantenna up to that, so I don't need the antenna on each computer. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

You should get a WRT54G running sveasoft firmware. I read a post here yesterday about someone doing almost exactly the same thing as you.
edit: for you - http://forums.netstumbler.com/showthread.php?t=12715

It'll work if you can put it into client mode. You probably can't, however. It's something to check out though. I'd still go for a WRT54G, you can have one at just your end, although one at your mates end too would make it even better.
