WinXP Signal Strength Reports
WinXP reports much lower signal strength (2 bars) than the Orinoco client utility or Stumbler. Orinoco doesn't report SNR but gives strength as 90% and "quality" as 44%. Stumbler says SNR is 25dB, which according to a table on an OSU
website should be "very good", almost "excellent".

Also, I've noticed that using the Orinoco client (WZ disabled) gives me better throughput under identical conditions. Is the Windoze implementation just brain-dead?

Yes
When I use the Orinoco client on a laptop here at work or the Dlink client with the dlink card, I rarely have issues.
