Amigo - Great Ministumbler Rig!
I just bought an Amigo PD-600C PocketPC device and I wanted to report to this forum the great luck I've been having with it and Ministumbler.
Basically the Amigo is an IPAQ clone, but with the benefit of having an integrated Type II PCMCIA slot, NO SLEEVE NEEDED. New units are currently shipping for $299.00 (US) from http://www.mobileplanet.com (I have no affiliation with them, just wanted to pass on the deal!) The Amigo website can be found at: http://www.urthere.com Enjoy! -langly |

Hey! This is one hell of a deal. I was going to buy a CF 802.11 card just for ministumbler (which would run at least 150 bucks). For an additional 150 I can get a new PDA because I already have the PCMCIA card!
SWEET! Thanks for the URL, Mate... I'm curious if it takes the Compaq PPC 2002 upgrade because Microsoft doesn't offer the 2002 upgrade for any other device (as far as I can tell). -Mc |

I spoke to a tech and they said they won't have a 64mb version for quite a few months yet so waiting won't bring much for awhile.
I'm trying to find out if they send me the PPC 2002 ROM so after I put PocketLinux on it I can flash back to 2002. Did they send it with the unit or just ship it with it on? -Mc |

Too Good To Be True
This looks like a fantastic deal. I have been looking for a hand held that included a built-in Type II card so that I could use my Orinoco Silver card with NetStumbler.
The WEB site does not provide a lot of technical details. Has there been any comprehensive reviews on this product? I would be curious to know if it has similar problems to the new Ipaq and Jornada models - i.e. LCD dust, dim screen, etc. |

Yes GPS is supported via an optional serial cable that attaches to the bottom of the unit. (USB cable comes with the unit /serial is like $14 on their website)
Mchale, my unit came with PPC2002 installed, but I was also sent a CD so that I could flash back PPC on with the aid of a PCMCIA flash card that I have. (They sent me the CD because of a problem I had with an original unit, the problem was self-inflicted ;-) ) My guess is that if you ask they (UR There) will send you one too, then no-worries if you want to play with Linux on the PPC! |

Just spoke to tech support at UR-There:
langly: "Can the @migo serial sync cable be used to connect to an externally serially attached GPS unit?" Tech Suppt: "Some people are using the cable for that purpose, yes". langly: "So the serial sync cable supports the standard RS232 specs?" Tech Suppt: "Yes." -langly |

I just got off the phone with Casio on the exact same topic.
Answer: "uh.... I dunno. You sync your PC with it." "Yah I know. BUT, can I use it to attach a Serial based GPS unit to?" Answer: "Um.... no. You have to use a CF GPS unit." I then went to Google and found a bunch of 'em that work with the PocketPC's through the serial connection. http://www.travroute.com/products/gps/pocketcp/casio.html http://www.teletype.com/pages/gps/compatibility.html Does anyone know if MiniStumbler and NetStumbler are compatible with these (or more)? -Mc |
