GPS

Well, now that ministumbler is out and working, I find that I need a GPS for my IPAQ. I was wondering if any one has tried out different GPS for the IPAQ and which was a good one to get. I was looking at the Pharos GPS since it doesn't use the expansion port, where my orinoco card goes.

Any suggestions?

I tried out ministumbler tonight and with no external antenna, I picked up 6 APs. 2 were at a major area hospital and marked cardiologica. No WEP. In fact only 1 of the 6 APs had WEP on it. Hmmm. I may have to search the city some more.

I just picked up a Garmin eMap deluxe package at Fry's palo alto for $169 (!!!) .... it's on sale until tomorrow.... I saw in a screenshot someone (Marius?) using this GPS with an iPAQ, connected through the serial port.... that seemed like a really good solution to me... now i just need to find, or make, a garmin->ipaq cable....

Anyone have links to info on buying/making Garmin->iPAQ cable?

...so to maybe answer my own question; it looks like if I buy a serial hotsync cable for the iPAQ I can connect that with a crossover to the serial cable that came with the eMap.... a little bit bulky solution but it could work... maybe?

RS-232 Cable

Buy the RS-232 cable instead of the serial hotsync cable. It's the same cable, but very short, so not as bulky. It's cheaper, too.

You need a null modem adaptor and the right gender adaptors to get the gps and ipaq to connect using a serial sync cable.

Cool Gps

I'm using H5450 with SysOnchip GPS Plus and works great. Check www.semsons.com they got good price and also in stock. The GPS is very cool and low battery and low profile.

They were not guests. Due to the conversion at that time, the names in the posts were lost.
