How to change your MAC for MiniStumbling
Here it is:
1. Get a nice registry editor like RegEdit CE (use Google to find it dammit!) 2. Edit the following keys: At [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Comm\WLLUC461\Parms] change the empty key "NetworkAddress" to whatever MAC you want, for example 022CDEADBEEF (yes, it's a string type) At [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\SOFTWARE\ORiNOCO\Driver\ Config01] change the same empty key to the same MAC you entered before. 3. Exit the editor, re-insert your card, and you're done! I've been doing some sniffing on the cabled side of my network, and the MAC does indeed show as the edited one. Enjoy! Mother |

Because...
Many different reasons, each individual may have his own, but for example:
- Plain simple anonymity, for web browsing through a public AP in a coffee shop. - Penetration & security tests against your costumer's systems, where you can spoof a MAC address, or pass undetected easier. - For the heck of it, having a weird MAC can be fun (see other threads). There are unethical reasons for someone to change his MAC, like hacking into a MAC-filtering AP, but that's like everything else (including Network Stumbler), a double-edged sword. Cheers, Mother |

A Question for mother
Mother, Just looking at your post, I see you are changing two locations. One of which looks like it has to do with which "Profiles" you are running. Any idea as to what happens if yo just change the last one, and not the first one?
Thanks David |

Is one register value incorrect?
Mother;
Could your first value be wrong? Seems like [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Comm\WLLUC461\Parms] needs to be [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\WLLUC461\Parms] It seems to me that all we really need to change is the value here: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\SOFTWARE\ORiNOCO\Driver\ Config01] and the address in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\WLLUC461\Parms]will change with the "Profile" we use. Correct on both counts...
Hey Dave,
Yup, I missed out the SYSTEM in the path. Also, it is correct that if you change the Config01/Config02/etc. value, when you activate that profile the MAC will be changed too, as the first key is relating to the current profile. Thanks for pointing that out, all the best, Mother |
